Hello

The Rocky Outcrop Writers tour is a literary event in March 2013 with Kirsten McDougall, Pip Adam, and Ashleigh Young. We will be on tour, so you should come along to one of our events. Our stops will include Masterton, Palmerston North, Napier, Whanganui, and Paekakariki, where we’ll be visiting bookstores, galleries, and public libraries. We are excited about meeting some readers (and hopefully gaining some new ones) and taking our work to audiences beyond Wellington.

It’s not just us on tour: we’ll be joined by a local writer or two at each event, currently including Pat White, Tim Upperton, Helen Lehndorf, Marty Smith, Helen Heath, Tina Makereti, Lynn Jenner, and Lawrence Patchett. We’re looking forward to some lively discussion and great readings.

As Kirsten says: ‘We want these events to inspire people, and get them talking not just about our work, but about the fantastic new writing that’s being made in New Zealand at present.’

Why did we plan a tour? As Pip says: ‘As first time writers, our work is largely unknown. We weren’t content to sit around and wait. We wanted to get out of Wellington and meet new readers ourselves.’

For Ashleigh, a tour is also a reminder of the world beyond the writer’s desk: ‘I think writers can have a hard time getting out of their comfort zones. But as with any job you love, it’s good to break the routine and emerge from the cave now and then.’
